Nokia shows 5730 XpressMusic QWERTY smartphone

Today Nokia officially launched the new 5730 XpressMusic phone, powered by the Symbian smartphone OS and Nokia's S60 user interface. The 5730 XpressMusic features the same sideways QWERTY slider form factor that Nokia used for the E75 business smartphone it launched at last month's Mobile World Congress event.

In fact, the 5730 XpressMusic and the E75 share a lot more than just a similar physical design. Both phones are equipped with a QVGA resolution display, a 3.2 megapixel autofocus camera, and a 3.5mm connector for stereo headphones. While the 5730 only sports 100MB of available internal storage for media files, it ships with an 8GB microSDHC(INFO) memory card in the box, which should provide more than enough room for a few thousand of your favorite audio tracks.

The 5730 features a new Xpress Homescreen shortcuts bar for ease of use. It is also compatible with N-Gage gaming titles, and supports a wide variety of social networking sites, including Flickr, Facebook, MySpace, and YouTube. The pre-loaded Nokia Maps application makes good use of the phone's built-in aGPS module, and the Nokia Messaging and Mail for Exchange email clients ensure that the 5730 XpressMusic owner is never out of touch with friends and family.

The 5730 XpressMusic support all four of the major GSM/EDGE network bands, works on 900, 1900, and 2100MHz UMTS/HSDPA 3G networks, and can connect to any available WiFi access points. Its 1000mAh battery should be good for up to 5 hours of talk time, 12.5 days of standby time, or 25 hours of continuous music playback. Nokia expects the phone to start shipping in the third quarter of this year for an unsubsidized price of 280 EUR (US$355). The 5730 XpressMusic will be available as a Comes With Music device in certain world markets.
